Pickleball Lawrence
Board of Directors
President
Brian Johnson
I have a loving wife, Sarah, and a wonderful daughter, Sydney. We have lived in Lawrence for a long time, but I originally grew up in Topeka. I’m a Realtor with McGrew Real Estate, and am thankful everyday for my success. My passion for playing sports is very strong and I like to share my enthusiasm with others. When I’m not playing Pickleball, I like to spend time with my family- relaxing, playing board games, and causing shenanigans (with Sydney).

Welcome to Pickleball Lawrence! You may already recognize the name as I am the person who updates your TeamReach calendar each month, keeps you
posted of any changes and events and am the Secretary of Pickleball Lawrence.
I was born in Minnesota, moved to North Dakota when I was 8, then off to college in South Dakota and ended up living in beautiful “Big Sky Country” Montana for most of my life. I received my Associate Degree in Accounting from the National College of Business in Rapid City, SD in 1974. Then I moved to Great Falls, MT and started working at Norwest Bank for 3 years as a proof operator, project clerk and installment loan collateral clerk. I advanced to my next job at Norwest Information Services as an Administrative Aide for 3 yrs. When they closed, I went to work for Great Falls Coca-Cola Bottling. I worked there for 19 years starting as a Data Entry/Computer Operator for 7 years and then as Administrative Assistant for 12 years.
My husband (Rod) and I love being outdoors and have enjoyed hiking, camping, golfing, volleyball, pickleball, gardening, snow skiing, and scuba diving in the
Caribbean. I also enjoy playing piano and electric keyboard and in my earlier years, rode and showed horses competitively. Rod retired in 2005 and we
became Snowbirds, traveling around in our diesel truck and 34 ft fifth wheel travel trailer. We ended up spending our winter months at Golden Village Palms RV Resort in Hemet, CA (SoCal) for 13 years. GVP is where I was learned to play pickleball and in 2018 received the “Most Improved Woman Pickleball Player” at their annual pickleball banquet. Now I was addicted to pickleball.
In 2018, Rod and I have moved to Lawrence to live closer to our kids. We have been married for 32 years and have 4 children and 4 grandchildren.
I am proud to serve all of our Pickleball Lawrence members and enjoy meeting new people and promoting pickleball in our community. Pickle on everyone!

I grew up in Lawrence and earned my bachelor’s and master’s degrees from KU. I am a Senior Academic Advisor at KU, where I work with undergraduate students in the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications. Other than the three years (2003-06) I spent in Indiana, I’ve been at KU as a student or staff since 1998. My family includes my partner Michelle, our 16-year-old kiddo Niko, and our two dogs, River Song (ratchi mix) and Jet (poodle-terrier mix). I started playing pickleball in September 2022 after being hounded into it by Brian Johnson every time I saw him at kickball. I fell in love with the sport and the community around it immediately. I’m proud to serve on the board and help the sport grow in Lawrence and Douglas County.
